Facts About Water Heaters

Water Conservation

Conserving water is good for the environment and for your piggybank! The best way to save money is to use hot water wisely, so here are some tips for conserving hot water in your home:

  • Install a water-efficient or low-flow showerhead
  • Insulate at least the first three feet of hot water pipe leading from your hot water tank – warm pipes mean warm water
  • When filling a bathtub or sink, put in the plug before turning the water on, then adjust the temperature as it fills up
  • Get a programmable thermostat for your furnace and set it to a comfortable temperature for the morning – that way you won’t use water to warm up when you wake up!
  • On your natural gas water heater, check if your water heater has a vacation setting – why heat water when no one is around to enjoy it?
  • Use the cold water rinse cycle; it saves energy and reduces wrinkles
