A polite, young man came to my door last night from National Home Services to convert my water heater to a new Energy Star one that would save me 30% on my water costs over the life of the tank. I signed thinking it was a good deal (he was great at explaining things); however, told him I would be contacting Reliance to discuss with them. When he said they could have a technician out today, a 'red flag' alert came to mind wondering how they could do it so fast. They want to get it in before your 10 day Consumer Protection is up. After speaking with Reliance this morning and reading the fine print on the back regarding the hidden costs and the fact that you are locked into a contract for the life of the tank (which could be a long time); I cancelled the contract with NHS. I was told it would take 45 minutes to remove the tank from Reliance and install a new one, but on the back of the contract they will charge you for 2.5 hours @ $135 per hour to remove their tank plus the monthly cost for the rest of the life of the tank if you want it removed or move and the new owners do not want a rentaw with NHS. This was definitely a scam!!!

EcoSmart Energy out of Toronto came to the door and made promises++. 1 month later I sit with 4 seperate days wasted waiting for these people to deliver. I get an excuse about wrong tank size/re-order and get no foolow through. The office uses a rinky-dink call centre w/ rude, punk kids. The main office (if yuou get them) DO NOT IDENTIFY THEMSELVES ON THE PHONE and there is absolutely NO CONTINUITY/COMMUNICATION. When I went to cancel they had me as cancelled already. Letter written to company and I was done! NEVER AGAIN!

I had a guy come to my door from National Home Services trying to get me to replace my water heater. I was told that my tank wouldn't last another year, that they price match, even though it would cost me an addition $6/mth due to new ventilation which would be needed. I was also told that National is suing Reliance Home for $21,000,000 for claiming that National was a scam. I signed, then canceled a few minutes after the kid left. My advice is don't let them in, say no thanks and shut the door.

Richard, Tecumseh

A rep from National Home Services came by door-to-door in the neighbourhood last week - quickly showing me some cheap badge as if that would make it more official. He requested to come inside, do a free inspection, at which time they will replace my water tank for a new energy efficient one at no charge to me, with rates that are guaranteed to be less than Reliance. Naturally, I didn't let this stranger into my home.

Today a man from Livclean said he was representing Reliance and said he was arranging replacement water heaters at no charge. It had been arranged by Reliance due to the age of our current one. We were suspicious at his presentation and when he asked us to sign a paper just to arrange a date we refused and when we started to ask him questions he became evasive. I am sure you are aware of these people but thought maybe you could make your London customers aware.Thank you.
